September 16, 2006 Guest Host: Hardy Kaplan owner of Chattahoochee Home and Garden in East Cobb County, GA.

Our Heavy Petal Plant Pick was brought to us by Hardy Kaplan. His pick Lobelia cardinalis. A striking spiky native, with brilliant red flowers. A favorite of hummingbirds, it typically likes moist soil but will tolerate regular garden soil.

Our Creature Feature this week was a real creepy blood sucking one, Ticks. Dr. Nancy Hinkle from the University of GA filled us in on the life cycle of ticks and the low down on how to properly remove them once attached. DO NOT put petroleum jelly or anything to suffocate them, thinking they will back out. And do not try burning they're butts with matches. If you do, they will vomit back into your flesh whatever else they have been sucking on. The proper way is to use a tweezer pinched behind the head of the tick and gently pull.

Product or Tool of the week: Hardy Kaplan was here to tell us what to expect when hiring a landscape proffesional.

Special Guest Host: Ashton Ritchie the lawn expert from Scott's Miracle Grow Company. He gave us the 'skinny' on what we need to do to have a 'fat' lawn to have the best looking lawn on the block!

Special Organic Segment: We welcomed back Farmer D - Daron Joffe of Farmer D's Organics. He gave us the p's and q's of growing potatoes!

Recipe of the Week: Once again cullinary expert Virginia Willis gives a wonderful recipe using some of those potatoes we just talked about. For details go to my recipe section under The Radio Show or Virginia's website
