Heavy Petal Plant Pick brought to you by Skinner Nurseries, Marietta: www.skinnernurseries.com This week Dave Smith, Sales Associate for Ashe Simpson Garden Center, joined us to talk about some of his favorite winter blooming shrubs. How boring our winter landscape would be without Witchhazel (Hamamelis), Corylopsis
and Daphne. Witchhazel and Coylopsis are in the same family and our a
wonderful group of understory shrubs or sometimes, small trees. Highly
fragrant, they are wonderful to cut and bring inside. Plant them in
shade and enrich the soil with plenty of compost. Witchhazel and
Corylopsis really have no pests to speak of and are easy to grow.
Daphne on the other hand likes shade but it requires perfect drainage.
No heavy clay for this plant. Dave suggests planting Daphne in a
container near your front door or somewhere you pass frequently to
enjoy it's intoxicating fragrance.
Product of the Week: Natalie Sharp, President of Sharp Garden Design joined us to talk about a product she is patenting Pot on a Hill. If you have ever tried to place containers on slope you know how difficult it is to level them. Well no more. Natalie's inventive design for placing pots on slope will make it a breeze. Pot on a Hill will not be available until 2007. Look for it at finer garden centers when it is available. The website will not be up unitl January 2007 www.potonahill.com
